Valerie Bertinelli is in the best shape of her life. After losing 40 pounds
last year in just 9 months by following Jenny Craig’s diet and running
five days a week, the 50 year old actress is sharing her weight loss
tricks.
Bertinelli says this is the longest she’s managed to keep the weight off.
She admits that losing weight is not as difficult as keeping it off. Her
secrets to losing weight are a healthy 1.200 calories diet, daily exercise
and, most importantly, awareness.
“It’s really about portion control. You can have anything you want if you
don’t eat the whole thing. Nothing is ever going to taste as good as the
first bite anyway,” she says.
The actress admits to being an emotional eater but she discovered
ways to control herself whenever she was feeling stressed out and
wanted to cure that with food.
“[…]Pausing in that moment when I want to dive into a big bag of chips,
think about what I was about to do and asking myself, ‘is it worth trading
this moment for what is most important to me … my well being?’ It is that
awareness factor. It’s saved my life.”
Even if she allows herself a splurge once in a while, the actress knows
her limits. If she feels she really can’t help herself to dessert, she’ll have
a taste, “but not the whole enchilada”.
When it comes to her favorite foods, Bertinelly says she’s a fan of the
Jenny Tuscan soup, which has only 65 calories.
“I also still eat Jenny Cuisine from time to time. My faves are their new
beef chow mein, turkey burgers … seriously, the food is delicious and it’
s a perfect model for portion control. It keeps me on track.”
So, regular exercising, even if that means just going for a long walk, as
well as a balanced, portion-control diet, have helped Bertinelli keep the
weight off.
