You've said that your 'Heroes' character is the first real woman you've played. Why?
ALI LARTER: [Niki] This is probably the most complex character I've ever played. She's trouble, she questions things,
she grapples with real problems and I

The writers are definitely merging the two characters but we're still exploring what's
happening inside of her. They have taken my character to different
places and so I'm always surprised. I don't like to know exactly where my character is going;
that way the show constantly keeps my brain on fire.
You're best known for your film roles. How is TV different?
With film, you create a beginning, middle and an end. With television, you don't know which
direction your character is going to take so I've had to
relinquish control. But the writers have done an extraordinary job of not doing what you
expect. It's that freshness that makes the show so special.
