That yo-yo cycle of dieting is never fun. Can you imagine if your job actually required you to gain and lose pounds? Many of the Hollywood set have had to adjust their weight for a role, but Renee Zellweger just might be the queen of the doughnut. With the third installment of the Bridget Jones’s Diary series in the works, Renee Zellweger is gaining once again. Zellweger gained roughly 28 pounds for each of the first two movies. Certainly not enough to make her tiny frame overweight by any standards — in fact, she looks downright cute as Bridget Jones. But gaining 28 pounds probably isn’t as fun as it seems. “I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you long-term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time,” Zellweger told the Daily Mail. In fact, Zellweger has described her body as “whacked” after putting it through the Bridget Jones weight gain. “It doesn’t know what has happened because it thinks there’s supposed to be a baby and there’s no christening,” joked Zellweger. For the first Bridget Jones movie, Zellweger gained the weight by eating as many doughnuts and cheese pizzas as her body could take. Not surprisingly, the junk food and lack of exercise made her feel sluggish. For the second movie, she hired a nutritionist and gained the weight with a controlled, but high-calorie, diet. Time to take the weight off Losing the weight again was no bed of roses, either. Zellweger said that she felt like she had a toddler strapped to her back while running around the track. Here is what she had to do to lose that weight and what she will need to do again to lose the new weight. She will need to cut out the carbs. To lose the weight after the movie wrapped, Renee started eating low-fat and low-carb meals. She ate a lot of lean protein sources and fish, like tuna, along with salad greens. For snacks, she munched on raw veggies without any dressing or dips. She hit the gym hard. To fight the weight gain, Renee needed to pump up her gym routine. Sources report that she went to the gym on a daily basis for 2 hour workouts. She performed a mix of cardio and weight training exercises while working out. Celeb gossip magazines reported she went to a spa in California called Ashram Spa for several weeks following the movie’s wrap. This $5,000 a week spa serves low-fat meals and visitors go on a 12 mile hike each day. Diet Renee has used the Zone Diet and has also been rumored to have been on the Kimkins Diet, which is a low fat, low carbohydrate plan. For her quick weight loss her meals were mainly tuna or cold meat coupled with dressing, salads and raw vegetables. Exercise Renee runs, and does weight training to stay in shape. Quotes “I put on 20 pounds for Bridget Jones’s Diary. I ate six pizzas and three candy bars a day, plus fettuccine Alfredo and peanut butter sandwiches. I think I was the only actress in Hollywood with weight- gain powder on her kitchen counter. It was like force-feeding. And I stopped working out. Then, when I wanted to lose the weight, I just started exercising again and cut out all the calorie-packed, sugary food. Basically, I hate rich food. Given my choice, I’d eat raw spinach and an egg white. I don’ t have a sweet tooth. I don’t drink a lot. I don’t like sweets. I don’t like cookies. Except once a month and then I go for a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. |
