Kelly Choi

Kelly Choi here is what wiki has to say.... (born February 7, 1976) is a
Korean-American, multiple Emmy-nominated television personality on NYC TV, one of
the the broadcast stations of NYC Media Group, the television, radio and media
network owned by the City of New York. In February 2009, Choi was chosen as the
host of Bravo TV's new series, Top Chef Masters, scheduled to air in Summer 2009.

Born as Young Choi in Seoul, she was a pre-schooler when she moved to the United
States with her family. Growing up in Virginia, Choi received her undergraduate
degree from the College of William and Mary, and her Master's from Columbia
University in New York. Before her graduate studies, Choi, who stands at 5 ft 10 in.
(1.77m) tall, was a model with Ford Models and also worked as a VJ for MTV Korea.

Choi made the transition to New York area television by creating and hosting
Freckles, a local entertainment and lifestyle program carried by the cable channel
Plum TV, which is seen in affluent vacation communities. In this case, The Hamptons
in Long Island's Suffolk County. She was lured into the highly competitive New York
City media market by one of the station's co-founders, Arick Wierson, as he eyed Choi
for the starring role in a series then still in development, Secrets of New York -
which would eventually go on to become the all-time most Emmy-award winning
television series in New York and as viewed as the platform that launched Choi's
career.

Choi produced and hosted the initial season of the Secrets of New York, sometimes
referred to as the "lost season" as its format was dramatically changed in Season
Two, when the show's Executive Producer, Arick Wierson, brought on veteran TV
producer/directors Harry Hunkele and Buboo Kakati to helm the series. Choi has
gone on to host three additional seasons which are nationally distributed by PBS.
Choi also created and produces Eat Out NY, another NYC TV program in which she
stars as the host / guide to the city's restaurants. She has also appeared in numerous
other specials and programs at NYC TV such as hosting the Beard Awards, the
Oscars of the restaurant world, as well as various other fashion and food-driven
programs.

For a few months in 2006, as part of a unique content-sharing arrangement between
NYC TV and NBC's flagship station WNBC, Eat Out NY[1] and Kelly Choi became
popular fixtures of the Tri-State Region's noontime viewing.

Choi also has appeared on the TV Guide Channel as an entertainment reporter. She
has also been a guest on the Martha Stewart Show, and is an occasional guest
correspondent on the Maury Povich Show. She has also appeared as a judge on the
Food Network's Iron Chef America.

Kelly Choi is considered the most widely recognized star of NYC TV and has received
numerous Emmy nominations from the New York chapter of the National Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences.[2][3][4]

She will be hosting Bravo's Top Chef spin-off, Top Chef Masters, premiering on June
of 2009. [5]

Top Chef Masters host Kelly Choi has a passion for desserts. She’s known to dip into a
bakery alone, and buy a half-dozen confections.

“I’ll pretend like I’m getting it to go,” she confesses. “I have a little bit of it all.”

Portion control is key to Kelly’s svelte physique.

“I truly believe that being a food lover has nothing to do with weight,” she tells me.
“Loving food doesn’t mean you’re going to be fat.”

Kelly highly recommends the book The End of Overeating and documentary Food, Inc.

“Don’t ever say that any food is forbidden, because the moment you do that, you want it,”
she says. “You may not give into it right then and there, but that forbidden fruit mentality
will totally make you lose it and go for it. Nothing’s off limits.”

To curb cravings for junk food, Kelly’s go-to snack is carrots.

“I love carrots and Korean hot sauce,” she says. “It’s so good because it’s spicy and
sweet. I love the crunch of it.”

In a recent interview with Bravo TV she said:

My friends who I hang out with all comment on how lucky I am to be able to “eat like a pig”
and stay skinny. Skinny, fat– none of those words have to do with the enjoyment of food
for me. Food is a pleasure and a joy, and I always try to enjoy what i’m eating, whatever it
is! My advice is: Don’t eat cuz you’re stressed or depressed or mad or whenever you’re
fueled by emotion. Eat when you’re hungry and when you’re ready to relish what you’re
about to put in your mouth. Treat your taste buds — and ultimately, your body and yourself
— and however that manifests physically in you is absolute perfection. Remember, food
lovers come in all shapes and sizes.

As far as working out goes, I think exercise is an essential part of living a kick-ass life,
just like eating tasty foods are. I work out to be healthy and it makes me feel great. Just
do what it takes to make yourself feel good. That’s the key. Her favorite exercise? Walking!

The New Yorker, who works out with a trainer off-and-on, indulges when the urge strikes,
sensibly.
