Jake Gyllenhaal is so yummy for his new film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, that he’s practically chiseled. His role as Prince Dastan required him to be naturally hunky looking so a traditional gym workout wasn’t going to do the trick. Instead, he practiced the French martial art of Parkour. Parkour is sometimes called ‘freerunning’ and you’ve probably seen it on Nike commercials and of course youtube where guys are jumping around roof tops, benches, beams, bridges and anything else they can find in the neighborhood. Jake said,“[I] never did anything this intensive before [to change my body]. It’s a physical role. And when I commit to playing a part, it’s 110 percent.”Jake worked closely with Parkour creator, David Belle, and the two of them did a lot of gymnastics at the beginning and worked with padded props to get the basics. Then when he had more confidence he started working with harder surfaces. Jake got good at his new sport and actually did a lot of his stunts while filming. He explained,“It got a little bit dicey there near the end, when they saw that I liked doing things that were dangerous. I tried my hand at things that were pushing it a little bit. There was this big 35 foot jump that I did that got a little hairy.”The 29-year-old actor said he’ll continue with Parkour even though he’s done filming because he likes to stay active.
