In August 17, 2006 - Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie Photos (186) It seems like Nicole Richie isn't the only one who hasn't become
oblivious to her drastic weight loss. The "Simple Life" star says she did not lose weight on
"purpose."
Over recent years, the young starlet has made controversy with her sudden weight loss. But
according to x17online.com, the actress attributes her extremely slim figure to stress.
She says, "I've never been diagnosed with an eating disorder. My weight is a result of stress.
I didn't lose weight on purpose, I simply wasn't eating enough. But I did realize I had gotten
too thin.
"Now I'm doing all I can to get my weight up and have gained some. I'm seeing a trainer and
a nutritionist and I'm eating healthy

Star Jones Reynolds
What hasn't been said about Star Jones Reynolds' rapid weight loss? In August 2003,
the former co-host of The View underwent a gastric bypass procedure. At that time, she
topped the scales at 307 pounds and said she was just ready to lose the weight. Her
surgery, along with diet and exercise, helped her shed 160 pounds and has now made
her almost completely unrecognizable when compared to her former self...But she made
one critical move that may have stalled her career -- she wasn't truthful about how she
lost all of her weight. It wasn't until four years after the surgery that Jones Reynolds
came clean in Glamour about her weight loss. Did it ruin her career? Some critics will
say yes. Her popularity declined on The View and after she was fired from the show in
2006, Jones Reynolds, an attorney, went on a one-year hiatus. She returned to
television in August 2007 as host of her own show on Court TV. Some are wondering if
this was a step up or down from co-hosting on The View

Carnie Wilson
There's nothing like having weight-loss surgery and allowing it to be broadcast over the Internet.
That's what Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson did in 1999. In an attempt to once and for all
shed the 150 or so extra pounds that her body was carrying, she underwent gastric bypass
surgery. She lost the majority of her weight the first year after the surgery, and spent the next few
years learning to live in a thinner, healthier body.
But did the surgery alone work? Not really. In 2006, she appeared on VH1's Celebrity Fit Club 4
because she had started to gain some her weight back. Granted, she had a baby a year earlier,
but even a year or so after her daughter was born, Wilson still needed to shed 40 pounds. The
results? After 100 days on the show, Wilson lost 22 pounds. Her career? In 2006, she released
her solo CD, A Mother's Gift...Lullabies From The Heart

Randy Jackson
Randy Jackson in 2005 after losing about 100 pounds. It isn't often that you hear about male celebrity
rapid weight loss. That's because not many guys have undergone procedures to lighten their loads.
Well, that's not the case with American Idol judge Randy Jackson. In 2003, "The Dawg" underwent a
highly publicized gastric bypass surgery that helped him lose more than 100 pounds. When fans
turned on the third season of American Idol, they noticed about one-third of Jackson was missing.
Why did he lose the weight? Jackson said he was having serious "issues" about becoming a diabetic.
He knew it was time for a change. Did surgery help his career? It seems that after the initial shock and
gossip surrounding Jackson's weight-loss surgery was over, it was business as usual for this record
executive
Anna Nicole Smith
When Anna Nicole Smith's autopsy results were released, it said her February 8, 2007 death was
from an accidental overdose of "methadone, anti-anxiety and weight-reducing drugs and,
possibly, vitamins, among other substances." In other words, diet pills could have contributed to
her death. In 2003, Smith became a spokesmodel for TrimSpa weight-loss pills after shedding
about 70 pounds and looking like a shell of her former self.
Did losing weight help her career? No. After the publicity of her weight-loss died down, Smith
really only made headlines when it came to her unusual behavior in public, a lawsuit with
TrimSpa, the paternity of her daughter or the death of her son

Kelly and Jack Osbourne -- These two children of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne each
decided that the cute, chubby kid act was getting old. In 2005, Jack Osbourne lost
about 70 pounds by giving up drinking and drugs, and by eating healthy and
exercising. His sister, Kelly, has also become a starlet in her own right. However, she
said a thyroid problem is the cause of her rapid weight loss of 30 pounds.

Ricki Lake has made hot celebrity weight news by announcing and discussing her
whopping 125-pound weight loss in the latest edition of US Magazine. She claims to
have gone from a size 24 to a 4 and without surgery!
As soon as I get a copy of the magazine, (possibly later tonight), I will scan it in for
you all to read. In the meantime, here is a quick blurb from their site:
Lake, 38, who just debuted The Business of Being Born, her documentary about
home birth and midwifery, sits down with Us and explains exactly how she got thin –
and finally made peace with her shape after a painful past.
On crash dieting in 1991:
“… I went on this extreme diet. I used to faint because I wasn’t eating and I was
always exercising.”
On what she thinks of super-skinny actresses:
“I think I have no wrinkles because I always had fat on my face. Really skinny girls
age so fast.”
I’m looking forward to reading the article myself, although I have to wonder how she
lost 125 pounds and didn’t get any surgeries at all. Usually someone that loses that
much weight has loose skin hanging afterwards?

Celebrity Weight-Loss Secrets!
Chatting With Jared the Subway Guy
Yeah, we all know who he is. But
Jared's spot-on about a lot of things —
not just Subway sandwiches. He spoke
to The Post last summer about his
book, "Winning Through Losing: 13
Lessons For Turning Your Life
Around," and I thought it'd be
interesting to see an unedited version
of his conversation with The Post's
Books editor, William Georgiades. It's
too bad Subway hasn't come up with a
secret ingredient that'd give everbody
Jared's will power.

Celebrity Weight Loss Secrets
If you’ve read my posts with any frequency, you know that I can pull your leg a little with my post
titles – this is one of those times.
It does seem that the quickest way to super-stardom, or to jump-start a career that’s been out
of the headlines for a while is to lose weight – Kristie Alley, Ruben Studdard, Wynnona Judd,
legions of celebs on Celebrity Fit Club, and the famed gainer-losers, Charlize Theron, Renee
Zellweger, the list seems to be endless.
But I wanted to talk about two in particular today, that typify the two attitudes about weight loss,
food, appetite and satiety. (please see link at end of post for more information about these
attitudes and how they get distorted).

Losing Baby Weight IS Real Work Reveal Celeb Moms
It is always both personally satisfying and a little surprising when a celebrity
mom reveals that she, too, struggled with losing the baby weight. And it's
certainly inspiring when a year long struggle to lose those extra pounds
results in a Bazaar magazine cover shoot.
Forget Gwen Stefani's blink-of-an-eye post-baby weight loss. Gwyneth
Paltrow shares a decidedly different story in her upcoming interview with
Bazaar magazine about losing the pregnancy weight both the first and
second times:
The first time [losing the weight] you are horrified. It's all lovely when you are
pregnant and you haven't been [to the gym] for a couple months and you
are still carrying tons of extra weight and everything's all hanging and
sagging, you think, 'How is this ever going to go back?' But it does if you do
a lot of working out.
Gwyneth's fresh perspective on celebrity baby weight and the struggle to
shed it is surprisingly different from the Gwyneth of pre-mommy days. I
remember a younger, childless Gwyneth constantly obsessing to the media
(but more often in private most likely) about her weight and the desire to be
thin. Remember Gwyneth at the Academy Awards the year she accepted
her Oscar for Best Actress in "Shakespeare in Love"? She wore a frothy
bubblegum pink Ralph Lauren gown, complete with a noticeably protruding
clavicle and pin-thin arms. It's nice to see that nowadays, the fuller, more fit
looking mommy of Apple and Moses is less concerned with being skinny and
more focused on being a good mother.
Similarly, actress Leah Remini, star of "King of Queens," has opened up
recently to US Magazine about her year-long hard-faught battle to lose the
weight she carried around after delivering her daughter Sofia. Leah says
about her public weight loss that she was the "only one" in Hollywood still
working at losing the weight a year after giving birth... without stage sets,
backlighting and a personal assistant.
So... what is our take away if celebrity moms, privy to privately delivered
food services, nannies, assistants, posh gyms, and personal trainers
available around the clock, have trouble losing the baby weight? Hmm..it
must be very hard, which in fact it is. Good thing that the rest of us do not
have work contracts contingent on a flat belly.

Kate Bosworth
We all know that heartbreak can have ill effects on the figure! Maybe her
recent split from Hollywood hottie Orlando Bloom has influenced her
desperately shrinking size. The pressure of being a ''pleaser'' may be a
factor in her alarming weight loss. ''I think probably trying to please too
many people. Sometimes I get so caught up in making other people
happy that I just sort of forget about making myself happy and you
obviously need to make yourself happy.''

Keira Knightley
At the premiere for the smash hit ''Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'' much ado was made
about her twiggy figure. Knightley ponders the
criticism she's taken over her appearance: ''I'm a
tomboy beanpole. I can't use a computer, so maybe
I'm a bit out of the loop. I don't know whether to be
flattered or not flattered. The beanpole bit, is that
good? Can you be a sexy beanpole?''
Lindsay Lohan
Where to begin. Bulimia, alcohol, relationship problems, a
public scolding from her boss over her tardiness and
partying and the mama drama, this teen star is never far
from the spotlight. All the stress and attention took its toll
on her health and required an intervention, ''I was sick. I had
people sit me down and say, 'You're going to die if you
don't take care of yourself.' ''
Ellen Pompeo
Her nickname is The Pencil. Need we say more? This Boston
native has gotten as much press over her slight form as her
acting ability. With the success of the show ''Grey's Anatomy,''
we'll certainly be seeing more of this gaunt starlet. On her
character Meredith Grey - ''She's smart enough to make her
way through medical school but she can't figure out that she
can't sleep with strangers all the time.''
Mary-Kate Olsen
One half of the famous duo known
as the Olsen Twins, this skinny
starlet raised eyebrows for years
with her scrawny frame. Concern
culminated with her appearance on
the Hollywood Walk of Fame where
she and sis Ashley unveiled their
star. She has undergone treatment
for anorexia and is no stranger to
the club scene, with her ubiquitous
smokes. She knows her comfort
zone, "I like to go to parties where I
know everyone. How are you going
to have fun with people you don't
know?"
Victoria Beckham
This former Spice Girl has been under the lens for years regarding her weight and
her high profile marriage to soccer star David Beckham. Clothes might drape nicely
over her tiny frame, but she saidthat's where the glamour stops. Motherhood has
taken its toll. "I've got so much saggy skin on my stomach," she says. "I might fit into
jeans, but trust me, I look really awful naked."
Lara Flynn Boyle
This brunette beauty has struggled with her light-weight status and the
scrutiny over her looks for years. Though recent photos show her improving
some, by normal standards she is still on the weedy side. Boyle knows
attention from the public comes with the territory of being famous, but she
has stated, ''Look, I love being famous.
Calista Flockhart
The new drama ''Brothers and Sisters'' is what's on her plate these days. The lanky
actress has dealt with talk about her weight for years, since her rise to fame in the
''Ally McBeal'' days. She takes the talk with a grain of salt and remains true to herself.
''No, I am who I am. I'm not going to change for anybody.''
Teri Hatcher
She told Oprah Winfrey in an interview that she is not anorexic. This
famously skinny ''Desperate Housewife'' wants women in the real-world to
keep Hollywood images in perspective, "Let me just say that every cover
of every magazine I've done has been airbrushed to death. No woman
should walk around thinking that's what they should be. You shouldn't be
beating yourself up."
Whitney Houston
With her recent split from hubby of 14 rocky years,
Bobby Brown, hopes are up that this songbird can
pull her life together. Trips into rehab, Brown's legal
trouble including jail time, and marital strife could
have contributed to her controversial appearance.
Working on a new album and a new life, this diva
may be on the road to better health.
Eva Longoria
Though it's hard to believe, it hasn't always been easy for
this lovely Latina to feel beautiful. "I grew up as an ugly
duckling. They used to call me prieta fea, because I was
the only one of my family'sfour girls with dark hair, dark
eyes, and dark skin. Growing up I was the ugly one,
because I was the odd one."
Kate Moss
Being a waif hasn't been this
beauty's only problem. She
has also undergone drug
treatment, had legal trouble
related to her drug problem
and been dropped by
employers who didn't want to
associate with her. As a
single mom, this model's
career seems to be back on
the upswing, but her weight
certainly isn't.
