Beyonce Update 2/11/07
Dancing for Beyonce Is No Dream, Girl
TMZ has learned that dancers working on
Beyonce's latest videos are being low-balled on
their salaries in order to make the videos on the
cheap.
Sources tell TMZ that the music diva is shooting
several music videos in L.A. this week, which
we're told she is financing, not her label.
Sources also say Beyonce's choreographer,
Frank Gatson, has refused to work with any of
the dancers' agents on this job.
We're told that by eliminating the middleman and
dealing directly with the dancers, Beyonce can
pay them below standard wages. Industry
contacts say this practice is highly irregular for
an artist of Beyonce's stature, and it undermines
the dance industry as a whole. TMZ has learned
that in order to maintain good working
relationships, the production company for the
project , RSA Films, has recently agreed to pay
agency fees for some of the dancers.
Usually, a dancer cast in an A-list artist's video
can earn around $3000 for two rehearsal days
and two shoot-days of work. Without agents
fighting for their rights, the dancers on
Beyonce's latest videos will earn less.
While some dancers have boycotted the
high-profile gig, others, willing to go around their
agents, have been flown to L.A. and put up at
hotels to work for the lower rates -- just to say
they danced for a megastar like Beyonce.
Since music videos are not covered under union
rules, Beyonce's camp is not violating
regulations, but they are not in sync with
Dancers' Alliance, an organization created by
dancers to standardize non-union work.
Calls to Beyonce's reps were not returned.
Frank Gatson's rep had no comment.

According to the NYDN Beyonce
might have left Jennifer Hudson's
name off her Post-grammy party.
A source tells us Beyoncé's
handlers did not want Hudson's
name on the guest list for a party
she threw with People magazine at
Eleven in West Hollywood.
"At a lot of events recently, it's been
all about Jennifer Hudson," sniffs an
insider.
"Beyoncé is successful because
she's continually been out there.
She doesn't want to look like she's
slipping."

The Australia based anti-smoking
group, Quit, is puffing mad over ads
promoting Beyonce's upcoming Aussie
concerts.
The posters feature the irreplaceable
superstar holding an old-fashioned
cigarette, which Quit believes could be
seen as promoting a smoking product
--an illegal action down under!
Members of Quit are "disappointed"
with Beyonce's choice of props, but
they are not the first to ring the alarm
on her photo shoot accessories.
Other photos from the same set of
publicity shots for her latest album,
"B-Day," featured Beyonce posing with
live alligators, which on top of her
excessive use of fur, caused PETA to
ambush the star. What's next? Will the
National Association of Swimsuit
Models issue a statement complaining
that Beyonce's Sports Illustrated cover
put them out of work?

Beyonce Knowles May Get Half An Oscar
Beyonce Knowles stands to pick up half an Oscar if songwriter Scott Cutler
wins gold for Best Song on Sunday - he'll cut the statuette down the middle.
Oscar rules limit the amount of nominees in the Best Song category and, as
one of five writers credited with Dreamgirls hit Listen, Knowles missed out
on a nod.
But Cutler insists the singer/actress won't be left out of he wins gold.
He says, "Beyonce helped that along a lot - little lifts in the melody, little
lifts in the song that we hadn't thought of. She just kept sending back ideas,
thoughts, what she wanted.
"I'll cut my Oscar in the middle and give her half."
